Now in its eigth year the BlueCross and BlueShield of Alabama Babypalooza Baby & Maternity fair promises to be the biggest ever. Presented by Children’s of Alabama you can expect almost a hundred exhibitors with health, childcare, and maternity goods and services.

A few of the highlights from 2012

Experts from several of Children’s of Alabama clinics including Early Intervention, Poison Control, Hearing and Speech, Injury Prevention, Pediatric Allergy & Immunology, CHIPS Clinic, and the Medical Autism Clinic will have exhibits and be available to talk about services and answer your questions.

Early Intervention: The Children’s Health System Early Intervention Program (CHSEI) is a comprehensive, family-centered program designed to meet the special needs of infants, toddlers and their families. CHSEI provides individualized and/or group services to children demonstrating delays in motor, cognitive, language, social, and/or self-help development as well as those who have a diagnosed medical condition that put them at risk for developmental delays. CHSEI also provides developmental enrichment services to typically developing children and their families through the Group Peer program.

Poison Control: The poison control center has a regional “hot-line” for poison control questions and concerns. Staff will address the dangers in a home and how to “child-proof” your house.

Hearing and Speech: Hearing and Speech is in the middle of a campaign called 1-3-6 in which they are talking about early intervention with regard to hearing and speech. Hearing can be tested from day 1.

Injury Prevention: This booklet and team of specialists talk about how to avoid preventable injuries to children. From preventing burns to cuts, this will improve the safety of your child.

Allergy: Specialists will cover everything from shortness of breath to coughing and cold. Information will be provided about when parents should take their child to the hospital as well as when to test for allergies.

CHIPS Clinic: CHIPS Center is a place where child abuse victims can come for help and healing. The CHIPS staff is a team of specially trained clinical counselors, doctors, social workers, and nurses who work with law enforcement, the Department of Human Resources (DHR), and child advocacy center (CAC) representatives to provide the best possible care for children and families traumatized by physical and/or sexual abuse.

Medical Autism Clinic: The medical autism clinic works with children along the autism spectrum. Experts will speak to parents about early detection and symptoms.

Area preschools exhibiting to help parents connect with a child care center that fits their family’s needs. Seminars on what to look for when choosing a child care center and research assistance provided by Childcare Resources.

Ever want your little one to try out a Gymboree class? Well you can do it at Babypalooza. Gymboree is bringing all of their equipment and setting up a mini-Gymboree at Babypalooza. You can let your little one explore while you find out more about the many programs Gymboree has to offer.

The Patti Acton Agency along with other Farmers Insurance Agents will have a m.i.l.k. Digital ID booth as part of a national effort to provide parents with personal digital safety IDs of their children in the event that their child becomes lost or missing.
